I was twenty four and knew almost nothing about photography.
I was experimenting constantly.
One day I found a small piece of pink plastic from a CD case and placed it in front of my flash.
The wall in front of me suddenly turned pink.
That was it.
A tiny moment that probably meant nothing.
Except it changed everything.
Until then, I thought photography was about showing the world.
That day I realized it could transform it.
The snow was still snow.
The trees were still trees.
The animals were still animals.
Yet they suddenly felt different.
More mysterious.
More alive.
Over the years, pink became much more than a colour. It became a way of translating a feeling. A way of showing the world not exactly as it is, but as it sometimes feels.
Twenty years later, I am still following the same accident.
